“Food for Little Champs” Event Announcement and French Toast

Show me a woman who is satisfied with her kid’s eating habits, and I will show you a kaaka (crow) that flies upside down. Even with a face as round as the full moon, and a tummy that will put a gulf returned beer bellied appachen to shame, she claims that her child is underweight and attributes the (tiny) tummy to chocolates and water. It truly frustrates her when the little one seems to love something one day, but declares it yeaky the next and she is forever trying to come up with recipes that her child appreciates, truly appreciates, the way she would like him to.

June is here, schools are reopening for a fresh academic year. This causes more worry, because the child needs more energy now to concentrate on his A, B, Cs, 1, 2, 3s, and Baa Baa Black Sheep. Hasn’t it been decided that he will one day become a doctor (or an engineer or a rocket scientist)? This seems a time better than any, to post some kid friendly recipes and put the mothers at ease.

French Toast

If your baby does not like milk and eggs, French Toast is something you could give him. And I am (almost) sure he is going to relish it (remember he does not need to know it has got milk and eggs in it).

Ingredients

1 cup milk
1 egg
5 tablespoons sugar
5 drops vanilla essence
6 – 8 slices of sandwich bread
/ Butterghee

Steps

  1. Beat together all the ingredients, except bread and butter, till the sugar has dissolved.
  2. Heat a pan, and apply butter on it. Dip a slice of bread in the egg and milk mixture and place immediately on the pan. When one side has browned, turn over and brown the other side.
  3. Repeat for all the slices.

The toasted bread can be served with a variety of toppings such as fruits, syrups, whipped cream, chocolate, honey, butter etc. But little qya decided he didn’t want any topping, and who am I to argue?

Try using slightly stale slices of bread, so that it does not get soggy when you dip it into the egg and dairy mixture.

My dear friend crl suggested I host an event on the blog. I loved the idea, but since my blog is not very popular (ya, I know, how shocking is that!), I kept putting it off. But as I already told you, there are lots of concerned mothers out there, so I invite you to lend them a helping hand by participating in the “Food for Little Champs” event. All you need to do is:

1. Cook a kid friendly dish that your little one enjoys, or that you enjoyed as a child. It can be anything, breakfast, dessert, snack, main course etc

2. Post it on your blog before June 30th. Include a link to this post in your blog.

3. Leave a comment on this post letting me know that you want to participitate in the event.
