This tomato chutney is a great relish that goes well with roti, naan, rice, dosa and even bread!

Ingredients

1 cup Finely chopped tomatoes
1 cup Finely chopped onions
1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
1 pinch Cumin seeds
Cloves   5 Garlic finely chopped
2 Green chilies , chopped
1 teaspoon Red chili powder
1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
To taste, Salt
1/2 teaspoon Sugar
2 tablespoons Chopped coriander leaves
4 tablespoons Vegetable oil

Steps

  1. In a pan, heat oil.
  2. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  3. The cumin seeds need to go in next, followed by chopped onions.
  4. Saute for a minute, then add garlic and green chilies.
  5. Continue sauteing till onion has turned translucent.
  6. Reduce heat and add chili powder and turmeric powder.
  7. Saute for a minute and toss in tomatoes.
  8. Cook till the tomatoes have turned mushy and oil separates from the mixture.
  9. Add salt and sugar and stir in coriander leaves.
